Well someone at Fred Perry's been reading Bones. Thanks to our great Razzle Dazzle Camo article in the Hardcore issue, Fred Perry have created perhaps the best range of polo shirts, dare i say it, ever!. Available directly through Fred Perry online store and a few other place. We're thinking maybe they should send us the range after we cleary inspired them! and it'd take a couple of seasons and no ribena for any of us to save up for one. Damn our poor yet marginaly fashion conscious ways!! ;)

1000 Journals
2008-07-25 17:32:11
I saw this project a few years ago and it it really blew me away, the idea and the intent behind it was inspiring. A documentary about the project will be out soon and I for one cant wait to see it. If you dont know about the 1000 Journals project then here's what they say
1000 Journals is a film about people whose lives are touched by 1000 traveling journals. These blank journals were released into the world in the summer of 2000, by Someguy, a San Francisco based artist. Some people found a journal, or got it from a friend or stranger. Some signed up on the web and received it in the mail. Some wrote in them, others doodled, pasted in photographs, or added artworks. Some kept them. Some passed them on. There are no rules, and no one really monitors these journals and their movements. And yet, they are connecting tens of thousands of people worldwide, provoking and inspiring them.
In September 2003, one of the 1000, number 526, returned to Someguy, filled. What happened to the other 999? This film tells their stories. 1000 Journals shares the experience of their worldwide journeys, and chronicles the self-governed collaboration of thousands of random people who have added to this global "message in a bottle." Directed by Andrea Kreuzhage. USA. Running time: 88 mins.

I guess there's many reasons why we're providing you with a webcam-on-the-wall view into one of our favourite agencies offices. So instead of trying to write some witty, ironic and cutting remarks we thought we'd just list them.
1- Semi-hot girl in the bottom left occasionly picks her nose, we're waiting to see if she eats one.
2- Keeping an eye on their work ethic
3- Waiting for hot girl we saw 10 mins ago, wondering where she's gone
4- Research for our pitch for a reality tv show, the day to day lives of an ad agency. Combining e-voting with twitter with facebok api and google earth = The World First Reality 2.0 Show, well apart from all the others. In fact you could call it Reality 2.Show
5- We're sorting out a premium phone line that you'll be able to interact live on the show. No money goes to charity, just Crooks and Castles and Fresh Jive and maybe New Era.
6- A new fetish.
Time for a ciggy I think. Keep it Kleenex baby

Its that bloody Pharrell again
2008-05-27 17:45:11
Just have a look at this chair that Pharrell and Domeau & Pérès are making. Took me a second then I was like Ooo. Anyway, here's what the big P had to say about the whole affair.
The chair below is called Perspective. It was designed by Pharrell in collaboration with Domeau & Pérès who built it and will be making the additional chairs. The chair, as well as another chair design and a table will be part of a show in Paris at the prestigious Emmanuel Perrotin Galerie. The show will be from October 21st 2008 until January 10th 2009. The chairs will be available in a few colors and only 4 of each will be sold. The chair below represents the love between a woman and man.
Indeed it does Pharrell, indeed it does.
“I had often wondered what it’s like to truly be in love, not lust for once..So I decided not to ask what it was like in someone else’s shoes or what it was like to sit in their seat..I decided to sketch out my own experiment; the perspective chair.”

Obama & Hillary
2008-05-18 13:35:46
So, we thought that we'd throw our 2 pence into the hottest political race since last time. But we're not talking foreign policies or recession, no, we're looking at something more simple and something we think is an important reflection on the way the race for democratic nomination has been fought and perhaps more importantly the integrity of each candidate. Posters. Yes, that's right, posters. If you're involved in design or any creative field and kinda know what's good design and what's 'laugh so hard that you're cleaning Weetos off you keyboard' design. We're not judging or even remarking on who designed the poster, we're just having a look and then making wildly subjective judgments on the candidates and their ability to rule the worlds greatest producer of fat people and good trainers.
Firstly, Its Obama. The guy is fucking awesome and I really hope that Americans can see that voting for him would be the best thing for them and the rest of us, maybe that way the american economy will be resurrected and the knock on effect on the world economy will mean that I can buy Ribena and weed and not have to make that unenviable decision.
Designed by Shepard Fairey from Obey the Giant fame.
We say..
Nice! I'd buy one of them
Hillary, I swear America shouldn't vote for the clapped out weirdo that is H town, she's wrong in so many ways, but the worst thing, even worse than the sniper fire bullshit, is her fucked up face. She has a really fucked up smile, Its somewhere between squeezing out a tiny pebble shit after you've eaten a whole pack of Imodium (anti-diarrheal tablets) and finding out the bullshit lies you've been telling are slowly being found out. Anyway here's her poster
We say..
'HHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA. That has to be the shittest poster EVER! are you fucking kidding me? the gashness of the poster is compounded by what the designer says about it.
"Senator Clinton is a beautiful, strong and inspiring woman, and I wanted to make a poster that reflected that. Rather than putting a slogan on the poster, I chose to put her name, because she is surely the only leader at this level with whom we are all on a first-name basis, and to me, that reflects her personal warmth and connection with ordinary Americans.".
I'm sorry, but piss off, did you make the poster while macing yourself?
We'd just like to add that we wrote this after a really long night and we're sorry if it offended you or some shit. If it did, you should get out more and maybe just chill out, spend more time with the family or get some new porn or something?

Lil Wayne x Strapped Condoms
2008-04-18 11:35:19
Man, This is what I'm talking about, a rap star putting something back "I'm the new spokesman for safe sex" Lil said on the Westwood show the other week, turns out he was telling the truth. Strapped Condoms, do you see what they did there? Strapped? Condoms? see it? American irony! ace.
The only thing is that in the poster Lil looks like he's in a bit of a situation with the cop, not uncommon, but after the 'kissing Birdman' photos, getting your picture taken in this pose is probably not the best idea. But, thats not to detract from his talent, I mean have you heard 'A Millie'? no?? then watch this video. He doesn't write his lyrics down and comes out with brilliantly inspired lines like, "... I'm tougher than nigerian hair...I'm a young money millionaire... if hip hop is dead I am the embalming fluid"

"Machinedrum SPS-1 is a dedicated percussion synthesizer and arranger. It offers four full tweakable MD-synths, advanced synchronized effect systems and a specialized percussion sequencer. Building on the classic traditions of drum machines, but introducing pioneering concepts, SPS-1 is a unique tool for patternbased rhythm creation."
Skeksi, a genius producer from Leeds showed me the Machine drum a week ago and it blew me away, the functionality and quality is spot on.
We're interviewing Skeksi for the Geek Issue of Bones Magazine, and he is like an oracle! crazy amounts of knowledge and some brilliant beats.

Keep Your Pecker Up
2008-03-20 02:31:01
Some wicked advice someone gave me today!
"Keep your pecker up"
Meaning
Remain cheerful - keep your head held high.
Origin
Whilst pecker is a word now associated with American slang the usage here is the English pecker, i.e. nose or mouth, as opposed to the American, i.e. penis. The phrase is equivalent to keep your chin up.
The pecker is generally thought of as the mouth, although the earliest known use of the word in this phrase clearly alludes to the nose. The imagery is of a bird that pecks for food. That citation is from The Times, September 1845:
"Mr. King... misstated the fact in saying that he had put a piece of lighted paper to the master's nose while asleep in that house; it was his hot pipe that he applied to the sleeper's nostrils, at the same time crying: Come, old chap, keep your pecker up."
Korg DS-10
2008-03-19 21:22:47
Dear Nintendo
We've been buying your stuff for years, when the Megadrive (Genisis) owners took the piss out of us we kept our chins up and look what happened, Sega got smashed. Then you bring out the Wii and the DS, blow our minds, and change music making and performance. Maybe not on perpose, but you did it never the less. Hacker and musicans found new uses for all the stuff you made and it was great. Now you do this? I cant believe it! this is amazing, I mean what the hell?
Which brings me to my final point.
Will you send us one? please!

Armed America, Portraits of Gun Owners in Their Homes
I was trying to think something good to say about this book, but I've only just shaken off a fuzz head. So, Kyle Cassisdy went around the USA and asked "why do you own a gun?". The pictures are arresting, you see gun owners in their own environment and the pictures take on an almost comforting feel. The book is really interesting if you don't actually live in the states and gun owner ship is an alien concept.

So, we're so busy wrapping up the magazine. Just dotting the i and doing the other thing to the T's. I cant bloody remember. Anyway, we had a bit of a run in with the boys in blue last night. For no apparent reason. The one time there's no crime going on and they show up and give it large. And when I start using words longer than 5 letters they get mad and stop calling me sir.
They wont believe that you haven't got any desire to commit crime and don't laugh at any of my rather witty comments. So Mr 318, and your little piss ant sidekick, hassling people for nothing is rude, and making a girl cry for absolutely nothing makes you a massive leg end. But I think the 4-Skins put it best...
High ALtitude Object
2008-02-03 17:11:39
This ingenious project by Alexei Karpenko launched a payload with GPS, camera, sensors and communications to an altitude of 30km. Taking Pictures and Videos high enough to see the blackness of space. Then the Ballon carrying the payload pops due to low atmospheric pressure and fell back to earth with a parachute. Its pretty sick to see how some people spend their time while we're playing Call of Duty. Take a look at the project here.

Smythson of Bond Street
2008-02-02 22:18:33
Ever wondering how we roll? No, well I guess it doesn't matter as I'm about to tell you. Well it's like we're gangsters that can read and have GCSE's. So, in keeping with the pimp lifestyle that we lead, we need something classy and hella real. This is where Smythson of Bond Street steps in.
Man, my note book is a fat, ph fat. When I'm intellectually thugging people know what the deal is. Aside from that, Smythson's product quality is beautiful, each note is hand made here in the UK, since I got one I cant wait to write in it and do carry it around showing off. Have a look at their website and treat yourself to something that'll make Moleskine user sad.
Xplicit Grafx Magazine
2008-01-31 16:49:42
Not a lot I can say about this magazine save that its by far the best graff magazine not just now but consistently since years ago. The magazine and the effect that its had on european graffiti are numerous. Xg present the culture in it's truest light, no fuss about 'yo yo yo look at me I'm a graffiti writer' or 'hey this is art' just good, wholesome damage. Xg is the standard that all other magazine of this genre should aspire to reach. Xg makes other graffiti magazines wimper and come up with excuses as to why they cant make to the night graffiti mission. In other words, stop fucking around with Graphotism and start ordering this magazine and learn yourself something. And in the current issue they've Taylor, for those who know about Taylor you know that you want to read about him and for those that dont, well you should probs read about him, he's like one of the about influential writers of the last 10 years.
Xgpress have started publishing books,
PIXAÇÃO : SÃO PAULO SIGNATURE BY FRANÇOIS CHASTANET
"Despite laws, ‘pixações’ have invaded São Paulo. A true calligraphic shock, that has caused a deep aesthetic transformation of the city."
We nearly bought it, then didn't and now regret it.
Pyro Radio
2008-01-31 16:09:28
Pyro Radio, is an online radio station playing hip hop and urban music. I've just had a listen and its badd music, yes bad with two D's, that means its good. What makes Pyro badd, is that they also get deeper into the music and culture, interviewing artist, producers and even Chris Rock for god sake, i mean you try getting an interview with the Rock, Its hard man. Not that we've tried but you know when you just know something, like a feeling, you get me?
Check them, read the interview with T2, make gun signs at the screen and listen to some good tunes.

Pharrell x Louis Vuitton = Blason
2008-01-30 14:33:56
Pharrell is one of those dudes thats really lives up to the old saying 'women want him and men want to be him' not me though, I don't want to make ground breaking hip hop or get Snoop high, I really don't want all the diamonds, or to be in N.E.R.D, you can forget about all the lovely ladies because i definitely don't want them - harlots, don't even mention the cars - I've got a carbon footprint to think about and lastly I would rather cut my own dad stick off then do a collaboration with Louis fucking Vuitton, I bet old Louis V is happy as hell though, because some of the Blason collection is tasty. And he probably gets Pharrells spare bitches (thats american for woman).
Anyway. Heres the ad
If you're watching it here you probably cant afford it, maybe we should chip in and then share it, like shareware jewelry? or maybe not. OK lets just look at them.
Suburban Bliss

The Three Threads
2008-01-30 06:16:19
I stubbled across The Three Threads store on Charlotte Road the other day, and kinda scared the customers my making gun signs at the Pointer trainers they got in there, well nice, well nice indeed. My companion was busy looking at the great selection of clothes, I think I ended touching some of the denim a bit too much, it felt nice ok, I even wanted to say 'feel the quality of this fibre' then I realised that I'd got the movie quote wrong and that its not really a great idea to let my inside voice become my outside voice. Anyway it is a great shop, My favourite being the unemployed hat, If only I had the money to buy it, maybe I should save my Rizla and Ribena money...
---
Heres what the team behind The Three Threads store say...
The Three Threads is the first collaborative project between the brands distributed by Work In Progress in the U.K. Combining the expertise of Gareth Skewis, (Pointer, ex-Silas and Slam City Skates) Ben Joseph (Carhartt, Meantime Brewing Company) and Rob Pountney (Edwin, Ex-Nike iD and Stussy) with the creative knowledge of Martin Lau, Mat Fowler (Playarea) and Fergus (Tonite, PAM) it marks our first foray into multi-brand retailing.
We say...
Nice.

Visit them, dont tell them we sent you, you might not be allowed in.
Fresh Jive x New Era x Spring
2008-01-26 20:44:18
Fresh Jive is one of our favourite labels, I dont even want to tell how much we like their stuff. If only I could afford to buy more. This magazine lark aint what its cracked up to be, I mean people are supposed to send us stuff, i thought they would, but the dont, motherfuckers. I'd write about it maybe even wear around town looking f-f-fresh and double hella good. But do they send us anything? No. Look I'm not trying to ask for shit, I'm just saying. If you send it we'll write about it, no, actually we probably wouldn't cos you've only sent cos we asked and thats rubbish. And for that matter if your stuff was as good as Fresh Jive we'd write about it anyway cos its GOOD with like two G's.
Take a look at the Fresh Jive x New Era collabo. And then try to buy one.

Have a look at the flickr page from the Library Of Congress. Great historical photography.

Palmer, Alfred T.,, photographer.
"This girl in a glass house is putting finishing touches on the bombardier nose section of a B-17F navy bomber, Long Beach, Calif. She's one of many capable women workers in the Douglas Aircraft Company plant. Better known as the "Flying Fortress," the B-17F is a later model of the B-17 which distinguished itself in action in the South Pacific, over Germany and elsewhere. It is a long range, high altitude heavy bomber, with a crew of seven to nine men, and with armament sufficient to defend itself on daylight missions"

Stephanie Toppin
2008-01-23 00:32:16
Stephanie Toppin's art work is the best we've seen in ages, the way she uses colours has had us drooling on keyboards. Her drawings are also just mind blowing. Have a look at her huge body of work at her flickr and the other places you can find her art. She's also super nice is going to be in a future issue.
